Fused Africa Top 50 African Women In Entertainment

Fused Africa is all about celebrating and empowering Africans all around the world. The world now has accepted Africans when it comes to entertainment especially music and films.

In our quest to celebrate these key stakeholders, our team has decided to celebrate the instrumental female figures of the entertainment industry since it is Mother’s Day.

We had a list of about 168 entries and after hours of deliberation and sorting out, we came down to a final list of 50 women in Africa. These were based on impact, influence, success, consistency and humanitarian responsibilities.

The list includes phenomenal women like Pearl Thusi, Kate Henshaw and Shirley Frimpong-Manso.

Here is the full list of our 50 African Women In Entertainment and this has not been ranked in no specific order.

  • Pearl Thusi is an actress, model, television host, and radio personality. Thusi is known for her portrayal of Patricia Kopong in the BBC/HBO comedy-drama series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Dayana Mampasi in the ABC thriller Quantico and Samkelo in the romantic drama film Catching Feelings. Currently, she stars in the lead role as Queen Sono in the Netflix crime drama series Queen Sono.
  • Mosunmola Abudu media mogul, media personality, philanthropist, and former human resources management consultant. She has been described by Forbes as “Africa’s Most Successful Woman.
  • Kate Henshaw is an actress, model, singer, television host, and entreprenuer. She has been regarded as one of the highest paid actress in Nigeria.
  • Shirley Frimpong-Manso is film director, writer, and producer. She is the founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, a film, television and advertising production company. Frimpong-Manso is also a principal of Sparrow Station, a video streaming service for African entertainment from Sparrow and other African film producers.
  • Dentaa Amoateng is the CEO of GUBA and an award-winning British Ghanaian entrepreneur, actress, TV presenter, singer and producer. She was awarded an MBE in Her Majesty The Queen; Elizabeth II’s 2016 Birthday Honors.
  • Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong popularly known as Becca singer, songwriter and actress. Her debut studio album Sugar was released in 2007; it earned her five nominations at the 2008 Ghana Music Awards. The album’s lead single “You Lied to Me” won Record of the Year at the afore mentioned awards show.
  • Claudia Lumor is a Publisher, entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Glitz Africa Magazine and the Glitz Style Awards. She is also the Executive Producer of Glitz Africa Fashion Week Ghana.
  • Donna Tanasha is a musician and former radio presenter at NRG Radio. She is an entrepreneur who has invested in the Beauty Industry. She is also the CEO and founder of ‘For Her Luxury Hair’ hair brand.
  • Hamamat Montia is a model, former beauty queen and founder and CEO of Hamamat African Beauty.
  • Nana Aba Anamoah is an award-winning media personality, news anchor and broadcaster. She is a member of the Women’s Premier League committee in Ghana.
  • Tiwa Savage is a singer, songwriter and actress. Savage’s contributions to the Nigerian music industry have earned her several achievements. She has been involved in youth empowerment and breast cancer screening projects and has raised funds to build schools in Nigeria.
  • Anita Erskine is a broadcaster, professional compère, actress and girls’ education advocate. Formerly the host and currently the host for the female edition of Making of a Mogul and Sheroes of Our Time which air on FoxLife.
  • Nana Ama Mcbrown is an actress, TV presenter and a song writer. She rose to prominence for her role in television series Tentacles.
  • Jackie Appiah is an award winning actress, Tv Personality, entrepreneur and humanitarian.
  • Yvonne Nelson is an actress, model, film producer and CEO of YN Productions and entrepreneur.
  • Mercy Johnson is an award winning actress and senior special assistant (SSA) to the Kogi state governor on entertainment, arts and culture.
  • Caroline Sampson is a radio presenter, TV show host, a compere and a voice over artist best known for her TV and Radio commercials. She began her career in the media in 2005 when she ended up as a finalist in pageantry.
  • Ntombezinhle Jiyane popularly known as Dj Zinhle is an award winning and Multi-platinum DJ, producer, media personality, and business woman.
  • Menaye Donkor is a super model, businesswoman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and former beauty queen who was named Miss Universe Ghana 2004.
  • Nana Akua Addo is a model, fashion icon, actress, movie producer, brand ambassador and philanthropist. She was crowned the second runner-up during Miss Malaika 2003 and winner of Miss Ghana-Germany in 2005.
  • Nadia Buari is an award winning actress, entrepreneur and philantropist.
  • Ophelia Crossland is fashion designer and the CEO and Creative Director of Ophelia Crossland Designs Ltd and Ohemaa Kids.
  • Velma Owusu Bempah is the Creative director of her self-named fashion brand, Velma’s Millinery and Accessories and the principal of Velma’s Millinery Academy.
  • Stacy Amoateng is television presenter/producer, media consultant, philanthropist and actress. She founded a charitable organisation to support women and children in need and has been recognised for her work with a Ghana Peace Award.
  • Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is writer whose works range from novels to short stories to nonfiction. She was described in The Times Literary Supplement as “the most prominent” of a “procession of critically acclaimed young anglophone authors is succeeding in attracting a new generation of readers to African literature”.
  • Funke Akindele is an actress, producer and philanthropist. She got her big break in 2008 when she appeared in the movie Jenifa.
  • Genevieve Nnaji is a multi award winning actress, producer, and director. She was honoured as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to Nollywood.
  • Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is an actress, singer, philanthropist and former model. Beyond her show business accomplishments, she is also applauded for her remarkable humanitarian efforts.
  • Iretiola Doyle is a writer, actress, producer, entrepreneur and presenter. She produced and presented her own fashion and lifestyle show titled Oge With Iretiola for a decade.
  • Joke Silva is an actress, director, businesswoman and Co-Founder of Lufodo Group. She is also the pioneer managing director of Malete Film Village.
  • Linda Ikeji is a blogger, writer, entrepreneur and former model. She is known for her blog.
  • Nse Ikpe-Etim is an actress and TV Personality. She came into prominence in 2008 for her role in Reloaded.
  • Charlize Theron is an award winning South African hollywood actress and producer. Theron came to international prominence in the 1990s by playing the leading lady in the Hollywood films The Devil’s Advocate.
  • Gloria Opare-Garcia is a former beauty queen, entrepreneur, philanthropist, health professional, Realtor and CEO and Founder of Ms Ghana USA.
  • ANGÉLIQUE Kidjo is a 4 time Grammy Award Winner, singer-songwriter, actress, and activist of Nigerian descent who is noted for her diverse musical influences and creativity.
  • Uche Pedro is an award-winning entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of BellaNaija, a media tech brand known for entertainment and lifestyle content.
  • Bonang Matheba is a television presenter, radio personality, businesswoman, producer, model and philanthropist.
  • Ini Edo is an actress and featured in more than 100 movies since her debut. In 2013, she was a judge for the Miss Black Africa UK Pageant. In 2014, Ms. Edo was appointed by the United Nations as a United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy.
  • Koshie Mills is an Executive Producer and host of The Diaspora Dialogues, and also the CEO of K3PR Marketing Agency.
  • Joselyn Dumas is a practicing paralegal, Tv Personality, award winning Actress, producer and a philanthropist.
  • Mercy Chinwo is a gospel musician, singer and songwriter and Winner of the Nigerian Idol Season 2 in 2012.
  • Terry Pheto is an actress best known for her leading role as Miriam in the 2005 Oscar-winning feature film Tsotsi.

  • Confidence Haugen is an entrepreneur, CEO of Aphrodisiac Night Club and a media personality.
  • Naa Ashokor is an actress and a media personality. She is also a budding businesswoman who runs two ventures: Jaarno, a digital foodstuff market and April Communications.
  • Jessica Opare Saforo is a media personality, TV and radio broadcaster and entrepreneur. She is the owner of The Voice Ova Company, a business that specialises in managing voice talent.
  • Jane Debra is a wedding and events planner, philanthropist, CEO of ThinkMahogany and Founder of Zero Hunger Ghana.
  • Diana Hamilton is an award winning gospel musician with several awards to her name.
  • Gloria Sarfo is an actress and TV presenter. She won Best Supporting Actress at the 2020 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards
